New Comic Book Series Brings New Twist To Old Testament

[ENGLISH] FLANDERS, New Jersey, August 12 – JMG Comics, a division of JMG Studios, is pleased to announce the release of its first comic book series, MECHA MANGA BIBLE HEROES. MECHA MANGA BIBLE HEROES brings classic bible heroes to life in a whole new way. This action-packed series is drawn in the popular manga (Japanese comics) style and features « mecha » (robots). The characters, themes and stories remain the same, only the setting has changed — to a futuristic world of aliens, robots and advanced technology.

« Just like modernized versions of Shakespeare’s plays, by taking a solid, meaningful story and translating its elements as faithfully as possible into a new setting, we hope to bring out some of the more amazing details that might get missed by today’s readers, » said co-creator and co-writer Tom Hall.

The first issue re-imagines the legendary tale of David, the shepherd boy who took down the giant, Goliath. The 32-page, full-color comic book retails for $2.25 US.

« David is a young kid who has to go toe-to-toe with a giant super robot, » said Hall. « Other than that, everything is what the Bible describes, down to the small details that most Sunday School versions gloss over. »

« The stories of the Old Testament are universal and can be found among several religions and cultures, » said Managing Editor Paul Castiglia, veteran comic book writer/editor for Archie Comics. « Our creative team consists of Christians who love both comics and the bible, and we’ve made this the coolest Christian comic book ever! »

The creative team also includes Joey Endres, Thom Pratt, Daniel Bradford and Jeff Slemons. Editor-in-Chief and JMG Studio owner John-Marc Grob has introduced several successful products into the Christian bookstore market.

In addition to all the action and adventure, Castiglia is quick to point out that the main goal is to encourage kids to read the actual bible.

« Right on the first page of our debut issue we proclaim, ‘If you think this comic book is exciting, check out the real story in the Holy Bible! You’ll find it in the book of 1 Samuel, Chapter 17, verses 1-58.’ If our comic inspires even one reader to pick up the real bible we’ll consider the project a success.
