Par la suite, et dans la m\u00eame logique, d\u2019autres s\u00e9ries de Rob Liefeld, \u00ab\u00a0Supreme\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Youngblood\u00a0\u00bb, ou \u00ab\u00a0Glory\u00a0\u00bb auront \u00e9galement droit \u00e0 une nouvelle vie plus riche en ressorts narratifs.<\/p>\n<h2>Trop vite, trop haut<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Officiellement cr\u00e9\u00e9e en ao\u00fbt 1992, l\u2019\u00e9quipe des chats sauvages offrait un pendant plus que s\u00e9duisant aux mutants de Marvel, quitt\u00e9s justement quelques mois auparavant par un Jim Lee superstar. De la sublime t\u00e9l\u00e9pathe Voodoo, \u00e0 la tr\u00e8s s\u00e9duisante guerri\u00e8re Coda, Zealote, en passant par les vagues d\u2019\u00e9nergies balanc\u00e9es par Spartan, sans oublier bien s\u00fbr les griffes en m\u00e9tal liquide de Warblade\u2026 ces personnages ont rapidement acquis la m\u00eame popularit\u00e9 que leur papa-dessinateur, b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant m\u00eame tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cocement de multiples produits d\u00e9riv\u00e9s, jouets, jeux vid\u00e9o et s\u00e9rie anim\u00e9e (que Canal + diffusa en France).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La raison d\u2019\u00eatre de ces h\u00e9ros\u00a0: la guerre mill\u00e9naire que les Kherubims &#8211; dont ils descendent &#8211; doivent livrer aux Daemonites, une race tout aussi extraterrestre mais franchement moins bien d\u00e9grossie (voir du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des Brood de Marvel, ou de l\u2019Alien d\u2019HR Giger). Pour le reste, apr\u00e8s une vingtaine de num\u00e9ros, la s\u00e9rie n\u2019avait pas grand-chose d\u2019autre \u00e0 proposer. Ces \u00e9pisodes d\u00e9marrent avec leur arriv\u00e9e sur le \u00ab\u00a0Monde des Origines\u00a0\u00bb kherubim, la plan\u00e8te Khera. Alors que les imm\u00e9diates apparences pourraient laisser croire \u00e0 un paradis retrouv\u00e9, chacun des personnages va devoir se rendre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9vidence. Si ici la guerre contre les Daemonites est d\u00e9sormais termin\u00e9e, les raisons de d\u00e9chanter seront nombreuses, et renverront ces Terriens \u00e0 une d\u00e9ception aussi profonde que l\u2019enthousiasme qui les avait pouss\u00e9s si loin dans l\u2019espace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sur notre plan\u00e8te, la rel\u00e8ve doit s\u2019organiser. Les croyant morts, et pour entretenir leur l\u00e9gende, Mr.\u00a0Majestic et Savant d\u00e9cident de cr\u00e9er une deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9quipe qui se consacrera, elle, beaucoup plus \u00e0 une guerre contre le crime organis\u00e9. Des profils assez impr\u00e9visibles, Condition Red \u2013 fr\u00e8re de Grifter, Tao et Ladytron, sont alors recrut\u00e9s, et d\u00e8s les premi\u00e8res missions, le jeune groupe fait montre d\u2019une grande instabilit\u00e9\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>Chronique d\u2019un immense potentiel<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En ce qui concerne les WildC.A.T.s, l\u2019excellent character-design de Jim Lee n\u2019est pas une nouveaut\u00e9 et les arch\u00e9types utilis\u00e9s pour d\u00e9finir \u00e0 grands traits la psych\u00e9 des personnages restent tout aussi pertinents. Une grosse dizaine de dessinateurs se partagent quand m\u00eame ces quinze \u00e9pisodes\u00a0! Travis Charest, r\u00e9v\u00e9lation de la s\u00e9rie (vol. 1), \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 pass\u00e9 ma\u00eetre dans la mise en sc\u00e8ne d\u2019univers sci-fi, et nous offrait un aper\u00e7u all\u00e9chant de ses futurs WildCATS Vol. 2 \u2013 eux aussi trop \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res. Apr\u00e8s, qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse de Scott Clark (\u00ab\u00a0Alpha Flight\u00a0\u00bb, actuellement cover artist pour DC), Kevin Maguire (\u00ab\u00a0Doom Patrol\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Justice League\u00a0\u00bb), Ryan Benjamin (\u00ab\u00a0Batman Beyond\u00a0\u00bb) ou Dave Johnson (\u00ab\u00a0100 Bullets\u00a0\u00bb), la qualit\u00e9 de leur copie, sans \u00eatre m\u00e9diocre, ne saurait atteindre le niveau de leurs productions les plus r\u00e9centes. Pour autant, la pr\u00e9sence constante du \u00ab\u00a0lien Charest\u00a0\u00bb assure une lecture plus qu\u2019agr\u00e9able de l\u2019ensemble.<\/p>\n<h2>Khera et l\u2019Image-dom, ou la fin des utopies\u2026<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Depuis son orbite, de m\u00eame qu\u2019en souvenirs, la plan\u00e8te natale des Kherubims \u00e9tait resplendissante. Maul et ses comparses imaginaient y trouver le cadre d\u2019une \u00e9mancipation, d\u2019un retour \u00e0 soi, et faire du pass\u00e9 table rase. Quelle erreur manifeste\u00a0! Quelle arrogance, et finalement quelle ironie\u00a0! Alan Moore ram\u00e8nera bien vite les s\u00e9duisants boy-scouts \u00e0 la grise r\u00e9alit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Difficile de ne pas voir dans cette aventure une mise en ab\u00eeme des propres limites qui s\u2019imposaient d\u00e8s 1995 \u00e0 la jeune maison d\u2019\u00e9dition Image Comics. Si l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re \u00e9tait probablement au foisonnement d\u2019id\u00e9es, le manque de structure \u00e9tait tout aussi patent. Le revers de la jeunesse, c\u2019est peut-\u00eatre une forme d\u2019inconsistance. Leurs personnages avaient de l\u2019allure, impossible de ne pas le reconna\u00eetre. Mais \u00e0 peine trois ans apr\u00e8s ce lancement retentissant, chaque teenager pouvait s\u2019apercevoir qu\u2019une fois pass\u00e9 le jeu qui consistait \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre les emprunts aux deux grandes maisons \u00ab\u00a0d\u2019en face\u00a0\u00bb, les cr\u00e9ateurs originaux n\u2019avaient pas \u00e9t\u00e9 en mesure de nourrir \u2013 voire de d\u00e9passer \u2013 leurs premiers concepts. Avec la direction initi\u00e9e par Alan Moore, les WildC.A.T.s cessaient de n\u2019\u00eatre que des pin-ups, des pr\u00e9textes \u00e0 splash-pages. C\u2019est l\u00e0 probablement le m\u00e9rite premier de ces \u00e9pisodes, quelque peu d\u00e9cousus en termes de qualit\u00e9 artistique, mais truculents dans leur construction et leurs dialogues.
